Arrived to the Top of Europe

June 19 - We arrived in Honningsvag, the most northern point in mainland Europe and located in the Arctic Ocean. We started our morning with a relaxing walk into town to check out the museum and other sights. The museum was quirky and charming. It had information about the unique location, wildlife, local art, the war, and the fishing industry. One interesting bit is they have a generator pulled from the German warship Tirpitz which was sunk in the war and they used it to help rebuild the town after the Nazis left. We then headed through town to the local church which dates back to 1882. It was the only building left standing after the Nazis destroyed everything with their scorched earth methods. Next we walked along the harbor and found a cafe to sit in and have a cup of coffee and pastry. It was a perfect Sunday morning in the little town.
In the afternoon, we had a tour with North Cape Adventures which took us to a Sami village to see reindeer and then to the North Cape, the top point of Europe. We saw lots of reindeer along the drive. North Cape is marked by a globe monument and beautiful viewpoint.
We then headed back to the ship for a beautiful sail out and to head south to Alta. We will check in tomorrow.
