It finally feels like the Arctic in Alta
Originally, we were supposed to be visiting Longyearbyen, a very far northern island of Norway. Due to some new environmental laws, large ships like ours (even though this ship is much smaller than other ships) are not allowed to go into that area. Instead, they added two new ports, Alta and the Lofoten Islands.
We joined in with a small group boat tour of Alta fjord to go see some birds and the spot where the German battleship Tirpitz was bombed by the Allies. The day was beautiful, but out on the fjord on the boat, it was quite cold and certainly felt like the Arctic.
Tomorrow is a sea day and then we will be in Lofoten Islands.
