Lofoten Islands

We have had a busy few days and I'm doing a little catching up here. We have seen some beautiful ports. On Wednesday, June 22, we visited the Lofoten Islands. One Norwegian had told us this is considered the crown jewels of Norway. The views and scenery were gorgeous. We boarded a bus in Gravdal and drove south down the lenght of the islands to a very small fishing town named Å. I didn't know something could be named only one letter. The views of the tiny fishing town were nice and the cinnamon roll from their very old bakery was a treat. We even got the recipe!
I need to mention that throughout this region, cod fishing is a major industry. They catch the cod and then put them up on poles to dry for weeks until they are rock hard and become "stock fish". They are everywhere and smell exactly like you think they would. My cats would be in happy land here where large areas smell like cat food. Still, everything is quite beautiful and the people are wonderful.
We continued driving back up the islands to numerous villages and seeing the most gorgeous landscaped. Everywhere you look, there is another mountain, waterfall, or fjord.
It was a full day of visiting the islands and we luckily get a day off at sea before hitting our last three stops in Norway.
